Ways You Can Volunteer
There are many ways you can help! We are always looking for volunteers to help with the following activities and events:
Mobile adoptions take place every Saturday at the Pet Smart in Joplin. We'd like to do more, and could with your help. Volunteers are needed to help transport and introduce the dogs and cats we take to those interested in adopting.
Shelter volunteers are needed every day. Studies show dogs need 20 minutes of hands-on attention each day. Dogs whose training was neglected by previous owners are at risk of never getting adopted because of behavioral problems. Training, such as leash walking, and basic command instructions will increase the likelihood these pets will be adopted. Volunteering in the shelter can take as little as 30 minutes three times a week.
Foster Parenting for litters of puppies and kittens is one of the most important things a volunteer can help with. The healthiest environment for young pets is in a home. There, they can be socialized, begin simple training, and removes them from exposure in the potentially harmful shelter environment.
If you're part of a community organization or business, consider sponsoring a fundraiser or adoption event! Invite the CHS to bring adoptable pets to your company, church picnic, business grand opening, school carnivals - or any event where people are gathered!
